Nature’s Farmacy was founded by Jeanette Pickett in 1984 as one of the first women-owned animal supplement businesses in the United States. Our mission began to find a way to reduce bloat, also known as gastric dilatation volvulus, in our dogs and those of our friends and customers. Having shown and bred black Great Danes since 1968, we have had a vested interest in finding effective methods to manage our dog’s stress, gastric problems, and bloat emergencies. So, Jeanette set a personal goal: STOP BLOAT! It became apparent early on that using high-quality, broad-spectrum probiotics and enzymes and feeding a diet with more meat and less dog food significantly reduced the incidence of bloat. We saw it in our dogs and customers’ dogs. We also saw gorgeous black coats and overall improved condition in our dogs. And longevity! Our dogs lived healthfully for twelve to thirteen years! So, we saw the difference. We then set out to share this new concept. It has been a very challenging task, but here we are today, 40 years later!
